10 Bands That Only Ever Released One Good Album

1. The La's - The La's (1990)

The La's were the missing link between The Stone Roses and Oasis. Noel Gallagher admitted these guys inspired him to start writing, and you can hear the similarities between him and La's frontman, Lee Marvers.

After the release of a string of moderately successful singles, critics praised Marvers for his approach to song writing; recognising him as a student of the '60s and comparing his band to The Beatles. This guy was seen as the man to carry the new sound of British rock into the '90s. However, by all accounts he was too much of a perfectionist for his own good. When the Roses released their debut in '89, The La's had been slogging away for several years attempting to record their debut. By the time Oasis hit the scene in 1994, The La's were all but over.

There She Goes, is the single everybody recognises. It became the sound of the era, but over time it has slowly eclipsed the legacy of the bands only album. After the single was release, the band landed a record deal, but the recording process was hindered by Marvers, who fired reels of musicians and producers over a two year period. Even after its release was marked by critical acclaim, the enigmatic frontman was still disparaging about his work. Soon enough, the remaining band members became tired of the situation and split. It's a shame these guys never pulled it together... , the Brit-pop wars, would have been more interesting with a third group in the running.
