10 Bands That Only Have One Key Member
8. Brendon Urie - Panic! at the Disco
The main idea behind Panic at the Disco was never intended to be a one man show. As the pop punk scene started to spread out and the emo fashions of the day took over, Panic seemed to just be a band of brothers, looking to make some of the most theatrical music that they could this side of My Chemical Romance. Brendon Urie didn't become the one key member by choice though...he just ended up being the last man standing.
After their blockbuster debut A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, fans were a bit perplexed by Pretty Odd, with songwriter Ryan Ross creating a Beatles-like soundscape throughout the entire project. In the wake of the dismal reception, the band split into two halves, with Brendon and drummer Spencer Smith being the only remaining members in the band. While there had been some talks in bringing in people like Dallon Weekes as full time members on Too Weird to Live Too Rare to Die, things have been going much more steady with Brendon juggling everything for the past few years, leading the charge on albums like Death of a Bachelor and Pray for the Wicked.
Even though the style has switched pretty firmly into the pop realm in the past few years, it's not like Brendon can't hold his own by himself either. Across the past few albums, Urie has carved out a lane that fits smoothly into the more Broadway-centric styles that he loves, along with honing his chops as one of the greatest singers in the rock scene today. He could definitely spin this into a solo career if he wanted to, but why mess up the brand consistency at this point?
