10 Bands That Only Have One Key Member
7. Paul McCartney - Wings
As Paul McCartney tells it, he didn't really know how to be in a band after leaving the Beatles. Once the Fab Four broke things off with each other in the wake of bad business deals at Apple, Macca was definitely adrift, creating artsy projects on his own with the help and encouragement of his wife Linda. He always thrived off of playing with other people though, and he found his next calling by building a new band around him.
While the original idea was to get a bunch of different accomplished musicians together to form a supergroup, Wings came together as something a lot more rootsy, with Paul working with ex Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine in the early days of the group. The first steps of the band on albums like Wild Life may have been a little rough around the edges, but things started to morph into something much more reminiscent of the Beatles' rapport in the '60s, like the bombastic side of Band on the Run or morphing into the stadium rock sounds of Venus and Mars.
Fans never forgot that this was Paul's outfit though, with the press even billing most of the shows as Paul McCartney and Wings rather than sticking with the traditional band moniker. Not all of his former bandmates were fans though, with George Harrison just saying that anyone willing to see the Beatles again should see what Paul's up to with Wings. He may have had a point, but if we can't have the Fab Four as we knew them back in the day, this is certainly a welcome substitute.
