10 Bands That Ripped Off Themselves

8. Numb - Linkin Park

Numb by Linkin Park is one of those few songs that hasn't aged a day. While the nu metal styles present in the video may reek of the '00s nowadays, the pure pain in Chester Bennington's vocals on this track is still relatable to any young teen who has ever felt left out or marginalized in their lives. Even though these guys had one of the best selling rock singles on their hands, that didn't stop the subtle retreading from seeping in.

When taken out of the context of Meteora, this track just feels like another attempt to rewrite In the End, only with a more radio friendly twist to it. Using the same kind of drawn out type of chordal arrangement, it almost feels like the choruses of both songs could easily be transposed against each other without many fans even noticing the difference.

Then again, this might be one of the few times when the new version is actually an improvement over the original. Although In the End has the endlessly quotable verses, the more subdued role from Mike Shinoda and powerhouse performance by Bennington make the entire song feel like an emotional punch to the gut. At a time when Numb could have fell on its face, it became the rallying cry that proved that Linkin Park were here to stay.
