10 Bands That Ripped Off Themselves

6. Cryin' - Aerosmith

Aerosmith is one of the few rock bands that actually made it through the '90s pretty gracefully. Even though grunge had sent most other bands packing with the gnarly sounds coming from Seattle, these Bad Boys from Boston gave it a fair shot with Get a Grip, with songs that gently toed the line between emotionally potent and commercially viable. However, the end of the record showed that the group was playing it a little too safe.

Coming as one of the leadoff singles from the project, Cryin' became the one of the emblematic songs of the group's resurgence, with Steven Tyler reaching deep in the back of his throat to get the more emotional side of the song across. The success ended up working so well that they just tried to do it again on the EXACT SAME ALBUM. As opposed to the more dramatic parts of Cryin', Crazy is actually a much better song, making the glitz and glamour of the original look too over the top by comparison.

To add insult to injury, even the video follows the same type of formula, down to band once again casting Alicia Silverstone for a shoot. It's one thing for a band to remain consistent, but when you have a rewrite that's clearly better, why release both?
