10 Bands That Stole Another Band's Sound
5. Mushroomhead To Slipknot
When Slipknot first arrived on the scene, they seemed like something ripped straight out of your nightmares.
From the dark themes they explored in their songs to the terrifying masks that they donned while performing, these guys have won the hearts of many metalheads and terrified many little siblings in their day. It could take any other band years to find an aesthetic this perfect, but Slipknot may have had some collateral inspiration along the way.
As the band’s debut started gaining traction throughout the metal community, the band ended up being criticized by fellow metal act Mushroomhead.
For as much as Corey Taylor’s shout defined the band, Mushroomhead’s mix of harsher influences as well as bits of nu metal in their presentation gave them a decent argument for calling Slipknot copycats. Lifting a sound is one thing, but the fact that Mushroomhead also wore masks when performing led many to believe that their argument did actually hold some water.
Though the bands have sparred back and forth ever since the late ‘90s, things finally seem to be water under the bridge nowadays, with even some of the Mushroomhead band members performing with Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson. It may seem important to call out someone who has ripped you off, but these bands have shown the ability to take the high road and move on from a petty feud.
