10 Bands That Were Haunted While Recording

3. Blood Sugar Sex Magik - Red Hot Chili Peppers

In the early days of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they always seemed to have the wrong producer working with them. While people like George Clinton and Andy Gill may have seemed promising people to work with in the early days of the band, some of their early work seemed to fall apart before it even got started, more than likely because of different misbehavior with drugs. By the time Rick Rubin entered the fold though, the band came in ready to work, and the trip was set for the Houdini Mansion.

Being one of the first records that Rick had recorded there, the band had some reservations about recording in the famous mansion at first, with Chad Smith never actually staying and deciding to ride his motorcycle in every day and driving back home at night. If you were to ask the rest of the band though, the hauntings were not nearly as bad as some people may have hyped them up to be. Even though there were some spooky elements at play, Anthony Kiedis had said that the ghost was very comforting most of the time, even appearing in one of the photos that was taken during the sessions.

There are even some times where the band got footage of everything going on as well, with the documentary Funky Monks showing them simplifying songs like Give It Away until they finally hit on the right groove. Not every spirit from beyond is looking to hurt you, and who says ghosts can't have a funky time every now and again?
