10 Bands Who Quit Music At The Peak Of Their Success
6. Oasis
You’ll be hard pressed to find any adult on the planet who isn’t sick to death of hearing ‘Wonderwall’. The 1995 megahit is one of the most played songs in UK radio history, with its legacy extending across the majority of the western world. Amazingly, the huge tune never reached the top of the UK singles chart, and wasn’t even the biggest song to feature on ‘What’s the Story Morning Glory?’ at first.
Ignoring this for now, Oasis formed in 1991 but didn’t reach stardom until the release of their debut album in 1994. ‘Definitely Maybe’ blew the UK music scene away, topping both the independent and official album charts. Although, the sudden success of the debut album paled in comparison to ‘What’s the Story Morning Glory?’, which topped twelve albums charts across the world, reaching the top ten in a further fourteen.
But, the dysfunctional relationship between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher was never built to last. The band were still flying high well into the 2000’s and ‘The Importance of Being Idle’ became their last UK number one single in 2005. The combustible elements finally exploded in 2009, and Oasis officially called it a day. Talks of a potential Oasis reunion seem to spur up once every few years, but never come to fruition.
