10 Bands Who Quit Music At The Peak Of Their Success

5. Heaven's Basement

Where other bands on this list had arguably plateaued with their success when they called it a day, Heaven’s Basement were still very much on the rise. Originally forming as a five-piece in 2008, the Manchester group underwent a number of notable line-up changes before breaking out into their own. Aaron Buchanan replaced Richie Hevanz on vocals in 2011 as Johnny Rocker also departed, allowing the band to mould into a four-piece.

Shortly after the formation change came the ‘Unbreakable’ EP, which foreshadowed the release of the band’s only full length album, ‘Filthy Empire’, in 2013. This record blew the British rock scene away and Heaven’s Basement suddenly found themselves amongst the scene's top names. They played huge festivals such as Download, High Voltage and Sonisphere, as well as embarking on a highly successful headline tour in 2014.

But, this tour with previously mentioned Glamour of the Kill would prove to be the band’s last full tour. Buchanan made a sudden exit from the band in late 2015 and Heaven’s Basement formally called it quits in 2017. Buchanan went on to form Aaron Buchanan & the Cult Classics in 2016, while the remaining Heaven’s Basement members formed The Cruel Knives later in 2017. Heaven’s Basement had all the tools to completely reinvigorate the British rock scene, but fans are still left to mull over what might have been to this day.
