10 Beatles Tracks That Were Ahead Of Their Time
2. George Harrison: Something (1969)
The unsung hero of the Beatles was without a doubt Ringo Starr. No one was as dedicated to enriching a song with rhythm as he was. George Harrison, on the other hand, was the most underutilised member. But despite only getting two tracks per record, he delivered the goods every time.
As he grew more dissatisfied with his position in the band, he grew more hesitant when it came to bringing new material to the table. The original demo for Something was laid down after a group session and remained undeveloped for sometime. The swirling chaos during the Get Back sessions resulted in Harrison briefly quitting.
When he rejoined, he had a new assertiveness, even going so far as to tell McCartney what bass line to play on Something. Something stands as perhaps the greatest example of Harrison's song writing ability; he moves through the melodies with an organic fluidity and attentiveness. His lead guitar bleeds with all the emotional weight of the lyrics, serving as the perfect accompaniment to his vocals.
