10 Best Acoustic Metal Songs
6. Patience - Guns N Roses
It would have seemed impossible to hear a band like Guns N Roses going the soft rock direction when they burst onto the Los Angeles club scene. After all, how the hell were you supposed to make a slow-tempo song when you have literally been christened the World's Most Dangerous Band? Despite having the muscle to stomp out the rest of the poodle-haired metalheads, these hard rock troubadours made a little piece of magic when they ventured into the studio for GNR Lies.
While most of the record has a freewheeling energy given the group's turbulent touring life, there was at least one gem to be found in the power ballad Patience. Written by Izzy Stradlin as an ode to his girlfriend, this track quickly became one of their greatest slowburns live, coming as a sort of palette cleanser in between the heavier sides of the show.
Unlike the other larger than life hair metal ballads, this track is straight and to the point, almost evoking the weary spirit of the cowboy songs of decades before.
Despite the fact that Guns were about to get much more extravagant on Use Your Illusion, this was a nice peak at what the Most Dangerous Band could sound like when they strip all the bombast away. Not exactly dangerous, but from the heart...like all good rock and roll should be.
