10 Best Acoustic Metal Songs
5. Dee - Ozzy Osbourne
The heavy metal community really didn't deserve a guitar god as legendary as Randy Rhoads. After Ozzy Osbourne was left dead in the water in the aftermath of Black Sabbath's breakup, Rhoads gave him a new lease on life, with some of the most tasteful solo runs to come from metal's golden age. Then again, Randy didn't really need all the flashy extensions to impress us either.
Even though the Prince of Darkness is front and center on his debut Blizzard of Ozz, Dee is Randy's real showcase, where he goes to town on a classical guitar, hammering out one of the most beautiful melodic passages in metal history.
Given that Rhoads' playing style was much more indebted to classical music, it was pretty much expected that something like this would have found its way onto a record sooner or later.
For a musician that was all about the darker side of rock, the message behind the song is almost wholesome, with Randy dedicating the tune to his mother, who first taught him about musical composition when he was a young boy. You probably weren't going to find something like this in the middle of Ozzy's live shows, but Dee will forever be known as that little beauty that only the hardcore fans remember.
