10 Best Avenged Sevenfold Songs
5. Fiction – Nightmare (2010)
The last song the Rev ever wrote also happened to be one of his greatest compositions.
‘Fiction’ immediatley stands out within the band’s discography owing to the fact the piano is front and centre of the instrumental. However, far from feeling out of place, ‘Fiction’ fits comfortably within the overall sound of the band’s fifth record.
The other key highlight of this track is the shared vocals between Shadows and the Rev. Whether they’re harmonising together or singing individually, both voices blend seamlessly with the instrumental.
Moreover, given the Rev’s passing during the making of the album, his vocals on this track have an eerie quality to them that adds to the creepy atmosphere of the song.
‘Fiction’ is not a particularly well-known Avenged Sevenfold song, but it ranks amongst their best material owing to a unique instrumental and a terrific atmosphere.
