10 Best Avenged Sevenfold Songs
6. Bat Country – City Of Evil (2005)
City of Evil was much more upbeat and melodic than Avenged Sevenfold’s previous material, and as such, ‘Bat Country’ is a perfect distillation of the band’s third album.
Thanks to some chaotic drumming from the Rev, ‘Bat Country’ has a maddening, intoxicated feel that’s heightened still further by the lyrical content.
The solo from Gates also carries a slightly unhinged quality, and as a result, it stands out as one of his most unique solos.
Yet the best moments of ‘Bat Country’ are the more stripped back sections. Even though the tempo and volume lower considerably, these moments don’t feel out of place as they maintain the dream-like quality of the rest of the track.
Put simply, ‘Bat Country’ is a melodic thrill ride from start to finish that feels much shorter than its five-minute runtime.
