10 Best Avenged Sevenfold Songs

4. I Won’t See You Tonight Part 1 – Waking The Fallen (2003)

‘I Won’t See You Tonight Part 1’ is the only track on Waking the Fallen to not feature any screamed vocals. Despite its softer tone, however, the song is an unforgettable piece of musical composition.

The use of classical instrumentation is particularly noticeable within the context of the rest of the album. Both the piano and the strings come together during the bridge to create a distinctive tone that’s closer to a movie score than a metal album.

Despite this, the more familiar aspects of the band’s sound work well alongside these classical elements. The guitar licks from Gates are especially good in this regard.

The vocals also stand out on this track, as Shadows manages to execute both the sombre and the anguished vocal lines.

Though 'Part 2' is certainly worth checking out, ‘Part 1’ is undoubtably the best moment on the band’s sophomore album owing to its raw emotion and its grand scale.
