10 Best Avenged Sevenfold Songs
3. The Stage – The Stage (2016)
The title track from Avenged Sevenfold’s seventh album is an eight-and-a-half-minute masterpiece from beginning to end.
As great as the opening guitar riff is, it’s the drums that really hook in the listener. Indeed, Brooks Wackerman sounds as if he has about eight limbs during the opening of this song.
In addition to the terrific drumming, ‘The Stage’ contains an impressive number of riffs and solos, each of which manages to oust the last in terms of quality. Moreover, Gates closes the song with a beautiful acoustic guitar melody that demonstrates his versatility as a guitar player.
Lyrically, the song addresses the tendency amongst human beings to repeat the mistakes of the past, and said theme is greatly enhanced by the terrific music video. Whilst most music videos are rather dispensable, the visuals that accompany ‘The Stage’ elevate the themes of the song.
All things considered, ‘The Stage’ is one of the band’s most mature and complex compositions that metalheads will be listening to again and again for years to come.
