10 Best Avenged Sevenfold Songs
2. Buried Alive – Nightmare (2010)
Structurally, ‘Buried Alive’ is highly reminiscent of Metallica’s more well-known power ballads such as ‘One’ and ‘Fade to Black’. Whilst it would be a stretch too far to say it’s as good as either of these two classics, it’s certainly one of the best Avenged Sevenfold songs.
Though the second half of the track is undoubtedly the most striking part, the low-key verses are certainly not forgettable owing to the sweet vocal delivery and the clean guitar tone.
However, in line with the title of the track, this subdued atmosphere soon darkens. After the first blistering solo from Gates, the instrumental transitions into one of the catchiest moments in the band’s discography that’s driven by a thundering guitar tone and some pounding drums.
The intensity only heightens as Shadows comes back in with one of his best vocal lines to create a truly unforgettable climax.
‘Buried Alive’ may not be the most original track from the band, but it manages to surpass most of their other material owing to its outstanding climax.
