10 Best Blink-182 Songs

1. Adam’s Song – Enema Of The State (1999)

The majority of the tracks on Enema of the State are upbeat, pop-punk anthems with plenty of catchy vocal lines. ‘Adam’s Song’, on the other hand, is riddled with anguish.

The instrumental of this track is undoubtedly the most unique on the band’s third album. In addition to the down tuning of the guitar and bass, ‘Adam’s Song’ also features a piano section during the bridge. Though the use of classic instrumentation is highly prevalent on the self-titled album, this aspect of the band’s sound was not common back in 1999.

Lyrically, the song addresses suicidal thoughts, loneliness, and depression. Hoppus’s delivery of such lyrics – far from being corny or insincere – feel authentic throughout, and as such, ‘Adam’s Song’ is certainly the most emotional song the band have ever produced.

However, the final chorus alters the lyrics slightly and leaves the listener with a message of hope. As simple as this technique is, it’s also a remarkably powerful way to end the song.

‘Adam’s Song’ isn’t the band’s catchiest or most recognisable song, but it deserves the top spot owing to the emotional resonance of the lyrics and the instrumental.
