10 Best Blink-182 Songs
3. Down – Blink-182 (2003)
Blink-182’s self-titled album is much more experimental than their previous material. Remarkably, however, said album is a strong contender for the band’s best effort owing to the consistent quality of the songs.
‘Down’ is a prime example of why Blink-182’s fifth album is so good. The general tone is sorrowful, and much of this is down to the piano that plays throughout the bulk of the track.
Barker's performance is also highly commendable, as he manages to inject plenty of catchy drum patterns without compromising the more serious tone of the song.
Yet the best aspect of this track would have to be the hook. Delonge’s vocals sour with emotional power during this section to create one of the band’s most chilling moments.
It's a shame, therefore, that ‘Down’ isn't frequently cited as one of the band's best songs, despite the fact it was a single. Put simply, it’s an experimental masterpiece with a unique instrumental and a truly mesmerising hook.
