10 Best Bring Me The Horizon Songs

3. Hospital For Souls – Sempiternal (2013)

‘Hospital For Souls’ closes out the band’s fourth record in the best possible way.

The introduction of this seven-minute number is driven by an ambient backdrop and some spoken-word vocals from Sykes. But after a short string section, the track bursts into a wall of distorted guitars that catches the listener off guard when hearing it for the first time.

Lyrically, ‘Hospital For Souls’ addresses rejuvenation and destroying one’s former self. The imagery used to convey such themes is dark and visceral, with Sykes referring to his ‘death wish’ and the desire to ‘burn’.

The closing stages of the song repeat the same lyric over and over again, but it doesn’t grow old owing to the sense of rising tension from the instrumental which then transitions into a gut-wrenching climax from Sykes.

‘Hospital For Souls’ is the sound of a man tearing himself down. As dark as this theme is, the track is stunning from start to finish.
