What's this? How could The Wall rank above The Dark Side of the Moon and Sgt. Pepper's?! Simple. While both of those are without a doubt better albums, as far as the concept goes, this one blows them all out of the water. The synopsis goes like this.... It focuses in on the primary character - named Pink - and the troubles he experiences through life which lead to an isolation from society, which is represented by a wall. For instance, shortly before he's born his father is killed in action during World War II. This leads to his mother becoming over-protective of her son, preventing him from having any freedom or making any choices for himself. Up goes a brick in his wall. He's sent to boarding school where he endures ridicule and abuse by the schoolteachers. Up goes a brick in his wall. Eventually, he becomes a rock star and gets married, but the schedule his career gives him leads to the break-up of his marriage. He gets forced into drug use by his manager. He gets yelled at from the audiences at his concerts. One by one, these things lead to more bricks being pushed into his wall. Finally at the culmination of the album, he's suffered a nervous breakdown and places himself on trial in his mind. The song brings forth supporting characters from all throughout the album to serve as witnesses, when finally the judge declares the wall must be torn down, finally opening Pink to the outside world. This album is written and structured so well you cannot skip even one song without missing an important part of the story. Without a doubt, on a list of the greatest concept albums ever made, this belongs at number one. Track Listing: One final double album... here goes... 1. In the Flesh? 2. The Thin Ice 3.
