5. Hospice - The Antlershospice-by-the-antlers_5u1ixuvpkb4x_full

....aaaaand here's the normal story I promised you. Released in 2009 to critical acclaim, this album by the Antlers is quite a doozy. A concept within a metaphor possibly based on a true story. Let's see if we can explain this a little better.... The story of the album follows a hospice worker who falls in love with one of his patients, a woman named Sylvia with terminal bone cancer. It tells how at first she's always angry and afraid, due to her constant pain, and lashes out against him, and how he continues trying to help her anyway. The entire story is particularly tragic how it chronicles him fighting to save someone he knows he possibly can't. But it gets worse. It seems the entire story is a metaphor, and is actually the story of a woman who is pregnant and wants an abortion, but the father is fighting to save the baby's life, despite knowing he won't succeed. Some people question this interpretation of the already tragic story, but look at these lyrics... "There's a bear inside your stomach The cub's been kicking from within He's loud, though without vocal cords We'll put an end to him We'll make all the right appointments No one ever has to know" The album also features a brief song ("Thirteen") which seems to have the fetus crying out to its parents from the womb. Sobbing yet? Track Listing: 1. Prologue 2. Ketterin 3. Sylvia 4. Atrophy 5. Bear 6. Thirteen 7. Two 8. Shiva 9. Wake 10. Epilogue
