10 Best Daft Punk Songs Ever
7. Lose Yourself to Dance - Random Access Memories
Though Daft Punk never were the most prolific act in terms of studio albums, Random Access Memories holds a special place in their discovery. After almost 8 years of radio silence, this is the kind of album that kickstarted the group's career all over again, with songs that were as much indebted to the classics as they were to more modern production styles. When it comes to raw dance music though, they knew they had to bring out the big guns.
Being one of the two collaborations with Nile Rogers of Chic, Lose Yourself to Dance is the most infectious dance groove that these guys have laid down, as it perfectly combines elements of their trademark production with the heart and soul of '70s funk. The addition of Rogers' trademark scratchy guitar sound really propels the groove, as Pharrell's massive hook guides the track along the way.
Even the breakdown of the robotic voices at the midpoint is fantastic for what it is, almost like you can feel the music swirling in between your ears. From front to back, this still stands as a work of production genius, feeling like an old relic from the disco era that somehow managed to find its way into the modern age. Random Access Memories has gotten all of the lip service it deserves from both fans and critics, but in a perfect world, this would have been the real radio staple of the decade rather than Get Lucky.
