10 Best Dave Grohl Songs (Not By Nirvana Or Foo Fighters)

7. "Nirvana" With Paul McCartney - "Cut Me Some Slack"

Dubbing the combination of Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, Pat Smear and Paul McCartney as "the new Nirvana" is a mistake. There is no Nirvana without Kurt Cobain, just as there would be no Beatles without Paul McCartney. That said, getting Sir Paul together with the surviving grunge all-stars to make a record is anything but a mistake. And they have a Grammy to prove it.

The impetus for the not-quite-Nirvana reunion came from Grohl asking McCartney to fly to Los Angeles so they could jam together as part of the Sound City documentary. Grohl envisioned tearing through Little Richard's "Long Tong Sally" and some harder Beatles tunes, but McCartney said he'd prefer to spend their time together recording a brand new song.

The resulting three hour jam session (with Novoselic and Smear filling out this bingo card of awesomeness) produced "Cut Me Some Slack," which sounds a bit like "Helter Skelter" filtered through an acid trip. And, not to overemphasize this, but this unrehearsed "jam" won them a Grammy.
