10 Best Dave Grohl Songs (Not By Nirvana Or Foo Fighters)
2. Queens Of The Stone Age - "No One Knows"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s88r_q7oufEIf Dave Grohl has one true soulmate in this world, it's not his wife, it's Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme. They go together like beer and whiskey. If Paul Simon and Daryl Hall had ditched Garfunkel and Oates, respectively, got high in the desert, and learned to turn the distortion knob past 3, they would come close to being as perfectly matched as Dave Grohl and Josh Homme.
Dave first got involved with QOTSA when he replaced previous their drummer on 2002's Songs For the Deaf. And he promptly did what Dave does best, ramping the band's sound up several notches. That's not to say there was anything wrong with the drummer they had before (or after, as he didn't play on another QOTSA record until 2013), but to quote Homme, "He makes something good, great. If something's mediocre, he makes it great."
"No One Knows" is the song that surged Queens of the Stone Age's popularity, bolstered by the obvious chemistry between the rhythm section. It's a curious mix of jaunty, jagged, slick and restrained that shouldn't work on paper, but was easily one of the best rock songs of its decade.
