10 Best Debut Albums From Indie Bands
5. Hot Fuss - The Killers
Where to start with this album. First of all its a debut album that plays like a greatest hits album with song after song earning critical acclaim. Hot Fuss was released in 2004 to rave reviews, the album as well as its singles recived an impressive five Grammy nominations and the album is frequently featured in Greatest Albums Of All Time lists. The album itself has sold around 2.2 million copies in the UK alone and is a well loved album for indie fans and non-indie fans alike.
Part of the indie revival of the early 2000s the band focus on their unedited instruments as the main body of their tracks. However they do add some more computerised instrumental elements to some of this albums tracks to add layers to the songs, and to give them a slightly softer sound than that of other indie bands of the time.
As far as debut albums go The Killers really got it right with Hot Fuss. The songs are catchy and make the listener feel exhilarated. They're the kind of songs you can't help but dance and sing along to, the kind of songs that get stuck in your head and are infectious to listen to. There's not a single person in the the UK who hasn't heard Mr Brightside being played at a house party, nor is there a person in the UK over the age of twenty that doesn't know every single word to that song, guaranteed.
