10 Best Frontmen In Alternative Rock
9. Chester Bennington - Linkin Park
The death of Chester Bennington was felt around the world. Even those who weren't particuarlaly fond of Linkin Park, recognised the impact of his loss. He was the embodiment of the tortured artist who bares his soul, for the sake of others enjoyment.
The 2000s was the decade of nu metal. In many ways, the rise of nu metal was a miss step in the evolution of rock. Korn had their moments, but Limp Bizkit championed a vapid form of male showboating, that espoused nihilism, arrogance and chauvinism. But Linkin Park represented something different. The group had the intoxicating energy that become associated with the genre, but their lyrics spoke to the internal struggles of Bennington and his frustration of not being given the tools to cope.
It struck a chord with fans. His aggressively emotive vocals were matched only by the resonance of the themes he was singing about. With Hybrid Theory (2000) and Meteora (2003) the group established themselves as one of the most popular acts of the 21st Century. But, even with less celebrated albums, Bennington's willingness to emote with unbridled honesty was appreciated.
