10 Best Frontmen In Alternative Rock

2. Dave Grohl - Foo Fighters

Dave Grohl is the best friend everyone wish they had. For a guy who plays such high octane rock, with all the ferocity of lion, he seems like one of the nicest guys on the planet.

His trajectory to fronting one of the biggest groups in the world, was a wild ride of ecstasy, excitement and tragedy. Before he'd reached his mid 20s, Grohl had been part of a band that shifted the musical zeitgeist and changed how rock music could be played and enjoyed. Nirvana was part of the movement that killed-off the tired genre of hair metal; embraced notions of alienation, and pushed alternative rock into the mainstream. Grohl's drumming played no small role in that shift.

After the death of Cobain (1994), no one would have thought less of Grohl, if he stepped back from the limelight. But he went onto channel the energy and freedom of grunge, into a band that embodies all the greatest aspects of rock. You've got the tracks that make you bounce - The One; you've got the tracks that make you shout - Pretender; and you've got the tracks that make you feel - Best Of You.

With the exception of maybe Bruce Springsteen, no other frontman works as hard when performing. Anyone who's ever been to a Foo Fighter's gig will testify, Grohl injects every ounce of his energy into the effort of making your experience memorable.

Before engrossing myself in the written word, I spent several years in the TV and film industry. During this time I became proficient at picking things up, moving things and putting things down again.
