3. Bass Drum Of Death - GB City (2011)

That heavy, classic Garage Rock brutality is felt in Bass Drum of Death's debut GB City from the moment a pounding set of drums break through the speakers of power chord number 'Nerve Jamming.' Oxford, Mississippi's John Barrett must know he's got something good going for him, as this somewhat cocky intro does nothing but take names. It's all rock n' roll pure and grody in its scuzziest form, like in 'Velvet Itch' he's pleading "I've got a velvet itch in my jeans / Can you scratch it right for me." The album transitions in a wonky way, quickly to slower jams 'Leaves' and 'Spare Room' which sets the rush of lo-fi aside for a smoke break while delivering originality in its heavy and almost demonic riffage. This record is what I love about garage rock. Devil horns, leather and a few thousand scuff marks on the dance floor, and plus, these guys are singing about unbuttoning the jeans of religious girls, which to me just screams R'n'R man.
