10 Best Garage Rock Albums Since 2010
4. Night Beats - Night Beats (2011)
I've tried my hardest not to make this list too "psychy," but it's happening out of natural progression - I can't help it. Seattle's Night Beats are a beyond brilliant band, with two of its members from Texas, bringing only the best musical influences to their playing. They've collaborated with The Black Angels, toured with Ty Segall, released a number of quality tracks and most important, absolutely slayed it at Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia last month. Band's like Night Beats make it so enjoyable to actually purchase vinyl. Dropping the needle on one of their LPs... well, there is simply just nothing like it. Their 1960s Texas music sounds the way it was meant to when it's on vinyl, not digital. Pure, crisp, and almost touchable. The band's self-titled LP includes a sonic array of hits like the woozy 'Puppet On A String,' the blues guitar scream behind 'Ain't Dumbo' and the Texan walk of 'High Noon Blues.' The album is what I would label experimental, because it doesn't stick to shouty garbage-day rock n' roll like many other Garage Rock bands, which is a suitable change every now and then. They're musicians at heart, unbelievably talented and write seriously mind bending licks. Just listen to 'War Games,' you'll see what I mean.
