10 Best Grunge Bands Of All Time

7. Mother Love Bone

Out of all the bands to emerge out of Seattle at the dawn of the decade, Mother Love Bone seemed like the one band who had the potential to be massive. Though the band prematurely ended before they had to chance to take off, their songs are relics from the Greatest Grunge Band that Never Was.

Before the more heavy side of grunge creeped in, Mother Love Bone's sound brought a funkier nature to the music, with songs that seemed to have much more in line with the Red Hot Chili Peppers than Black Sabbath. At the center of it all was frontman Andy Wood, who had all the makings of a perfect showman. His stage persona seemed to take all the great aspects of people like Freddie Mercury and Steven Tyler and channel them into one epic performance.

When the band was about to reach their pinnacle, Wood died of a drug overdose just before their debut album was released. With the band now kaput, bandmates Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament refused to be deterred and eventually formed Pearl Jam once regrouping after Wood's death. Though people still look on Mother Love Bone with fondness, it's a shame that we'll never hear the greatness they could have achieved had Wood survived.
