10 Best Guitarists Of The 2000s

8. Jonny Greenwood

When the 2000's dawned, everyone was wondering what the next step for Radiohead would be after their colossal 1997 masterpiece Ok Computer. However, the band would spend the rest of the decade distancing themselves from their alt-rock roots.

Throughout masterpieces like Kid A, In Rainbows, and Amnesiac, Jonny Greenwood was integral in making Radiohead's sound much more mysterious. Instead of employing rapid-fast guitar work, Greenwood spent his time tinkering with guitar effects that made the instrument emit sounds that had never been heard before in rock music.

But that doesn't mean there weren't any great riffs from Greenwood as well. Across In Rainbows, Greenwood's off-kilter magic on songs like "15 Step" and "Reckoner" is unparalleled as he weaves his way through complex chord progressions and produces a wonderful sonic tapestry.

Outside of the band, Greenwood has also taken his talents to the big screen by writing incredible scores for movies like Phantom Thread and There Will Be Blood. Greenwood's mindset towards guitar parts made everyone rethink the guitar's place in rock. Gone was the soulless shredding of decades past. Now was the time for the guitar to serve the song in order to make a statement.
