10 Best Guitarists Of The 2000s

9. Mark Tremonti

In the era of nu metal and garage rock, Creed were one of the sole arena rock acts that filled stadiums around the world. Unfortunately, the band's milquetoast lyrical approach and singer Scott Stapp's Eddie-Vedder-isms became too much for rock fans to bear. One of Creed's saving graces was that they had Mark Tremonti among their ranks.

Growing up a big fan of speed metal, Tremonti gave Creed the edge that they needed to cross over to the hard rock genre. Sure, Stapp's lyrics seemed trite, but it didn't matter because the riffs were too damn good.

After Creed fell apart in the early 2000's, the non-Stapp Creed members formed Alter Bridge with powerhouse vocalist Myles Kennedy and went onto global success. In this rock outfit, Tremonti's solo work fits in much better and is more often than not at the forefront of every song. Tremonti recently has even found solo success with his eponymous band, where he showcases his capabilities as a singer as well. As Alter Bridge proceeds to dominate the rock landscape with last year's Walk the Sky, Tremonti proves himself as a guitarist who not only kept his chops but might have even gotten better with age.
