10 Best Guitarists Of The 2000s

4. John Frusciante

With the Red Hot Chili Peppers blowing up in the early 90's, the band were poised to become one of the next rock legends. However, John Frusciante found himself increasingly uncomfortable with his newfound fame and abruptly quit the band as he sunk deeper into a drug-fueled haze. By the time he returned in the late 90's, the groove he laid down with the Peppers signaled the second coming for this guitar genius.

From 1999's Californication to his last outing Stadium Arcadium, Frusciante proved that his departure had done nothing to stop his beautiful touch on the six-string. The singles released during this period yielded some of the greatest riffs in the Pepper's catalog from "Can't Stop" and "Dani California." And lest we forget the mellow headtrip that is "Snow," whose guitar part is incredibly laid back while being an absolute nightmare to master.

In addition to his solo flashiness, Frusciante knows the power behind his craft and can get more emotion out of a single note than your average guitarist could get in an entire solo. With Frusciante returning to the fold in recent years, one can only hope that he will once again grace us with his guitar wizardry.
