10 Best Hard Rock Albums Since 2010
3. Danger Days - My Chemical Romance
My Chemical Romance were not in an enviable position when making a follow-up to their opus The Black Parade. The album was one of the best of the 2000's and cemented the band as living legends in the rock scene. Where were they supposed to go from there?
Instead of draping their next record in a full narrative, MCR made a record inspired by Gerard Way's comic book premise of the Fabulous Killjoys. From the word go, this album has a great aggressive tone from the opening buzz of "Na Na Na" to the frenetic "Party Poison." The band also writes great slower cuts to bring down the tension like on "Sing" and "Scarecrow." With their previous effort drenched in chromatic colors, Danger Days was the equivalent of a pop-punk color spectrum that took the listener on a ride through a neon dystopia.
After the tour to support the record, MCR unexpectedly decided to split up so the members could pursue different creative ventures. With the band returning as the 2020's begin, here's hoping that any of My Chemical Romance's upcoming studio output is as good as their turbulent finish.
