A 2013 debut album gained Drenge great exposure and this year's follow-up, Undertow, has helped to solidify that. It went in at number 14 on the Official UK Album Charts, proving the now three piece aren't just a flash in the pan.

Their debut on the David Letterman Show with the spidery brilliance of 'We Can Do What We Want' certainly did them no harm either. Not the easiest band to pin down, the song starts out like a standard indie number before delving into a Billy Idol meets Ramones pastiche, with ear-worm riffs and pounding drumming rode along by a great vocal performance of spit-firing precision.

Lyrically the song is a frantic, self-gratifying celebration of simply doing what you want with no questions asked. Singer and guitarist Eoin Loveless announces his feelings with "No-one tells us we are wrong, No-one tells us when to stop, No-one takes account and no one steps in, Or has the guts to call us up". There's a somewhat snotty - though not unwelcome - youthfulness.

Drenge possess a certain old school quality that many of their contemporary peers lack and that is one of cocky self-adulation, something so integral to the genre it's quite amazing there aren't more bands doing it. The Yorkshire racket makers certainly prove that there's something still to be said for brash, fast paced rock & roll music in 2015.
