10 Best Hard Rock Bands Of The 1970's

4. AC/DC

If you were looking for any stripe of hard rock in the 70's, bands would more often than not be coming from America or from across the pond in Europe. All of a sudden, a little band from down under came squealing to life with a sound that was balls-to-the-wall hard rock.

The way AC/DC worked throughout the 70's truly looked like a gang, with each member looking like they had just crawled off the streets. While these punks were thrashing away on their instruments, the sound was definitely not punk rock. This was the sound of rock's early days brought to its nasty conclusion. The riffs blaring from Angus and Malcolm Young were almost spellbinding with their throaty growl and percussive thunder.

While the band has been praised everywhere for the incarnation with Brian Johnson, the real soul of the band initially came from wildman Bon Scott, whose lyrics about sleazy affairs were complimented perfectly with the lead breaks of the Youngs. The words may seem incredibly dark if you take a closer look, but the groove behind these songs simply can't be denied. While other bands were making raucous rock and roll, AC/DC showed what a rock band sounds like with absolutely no holds barred.
