10 Best Hard Rock Music Videos Of The 2000s

6. Dani California - Red Hot Chili Peppers ( 2006)

The Chili Peppers had a string of great music videos during the 2000s. By The Way featured a crazed mullet-sporting fan trying to kidnap lead singer Anthony Kiedis, and Californication was a depiction of what GTA might look like if it had a parental guidance setting.

But, Dani California received the most award nominations. Directed by esteemed film maker Tony Kaye, who had made a string of music videos at this point - including Johnny Cash's Gods Gonna Cut You Down - but his most critically acclaimed work was the movie American History X.

Kaye's video with the Chili Peppers was a far less grim portrayal of American subcultures, however, trading in the disturbing world of Neo-Nazi skinheads to explore the different eras of rock.

A simple enough concept, with the band adopting the attire and characteristics of different rock movements throughout the decades. From early rock 'n' roll, to funk, punk and psychedelic rock, it was a great homage to the band's most respected influences, with the more specific references including, Elvis Presley, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and Kurt Cobain.
