10 Best Hard Rock Music Videos Of The 2000s

2. Low - Foo Fighters (2002)

Dave Grohl has said he doesn't like to take music videos too seriously. Well, that was clear when he teamed up with Jack Black to shoot the music video for the third single from the album One By One.

Grohl and Black became friends back in the late '90s, leading to a number of collaborations, including Grohl drumming on Tenacious D's first record, as well as 'JB' and 'Kage' appearing in the 1999 music video Learn To Fly.

The track Low was one of Foo Fighters darker numbers, with pretty ambiguous lyrics, but with connotations that were fairly easy to figure out. The song hints at the tantalising allure of some kind of wild relationship, whether it be with another person or with a substance; the focus was all about pushing things to the limit, reaching the darkest and lowest places possible.

So, how to represent this in a visual form? Easy, stick Jack Black and Dave Grohl in a seedy motel, get them wasted, throw in a few suitcases of women's lingerie and watch the madness unfold.

MTV would end up banning this video for being too explicit, and a 2003 review by MTV is an amusing insight into the reaction people had to it back in the day. This video wasn't winning any awards, but it's indicative of the sense of humour both Dave Grohl and Jack Black have towards playing the serious rock star figure.
