10 Best Heavy Metal Live Performances Of 2016

6. Anthrax

2016 saw New York's thrash titans Anthrax turn 35, so you know that the pioneering quintet has (in some cases literally) been there, done that and gotten the T-shirt. They are road warriors to the nth degree: Why else do you think it took them five years to make their newest album?

And that veteran experience came out in 2016, with a band that's spent over three decades on the road somehow sounding just as vitalised and energised as acts half their age. It is a consistency that is impossible to disrespect.

Bloodstock 2016 saw Anthrax acting as the main support to fellow '80s thrashers Slayer, and it was a slot that once again emphasised the former's live abilities, as they (as blasphemous as it may seem) played circles around their old-school counterparts.

That said, Slayer have been through a lot the past few years, so we'll let it slide.
