10 Best Heavy Metal Live Performances Of 2016

5. Sabaton

With Sabaton's lyrics primarily centring around topics like war and death, it feels somewhat ironic to say that their live shows are really, really, really fun. Or at least, it does if you've never been to one.

With an appeal just bordering on the edge of the campy, the Swedish power metallers are over-the-top in almost every regard, from their attire to their on-stage mannerisms to the bombastic keyboards in the background. But that's what makes them so damn great. I mean, that is metal! You can't exude everything we love about the genre and its storied mentality without giving your absolute all.

As they slay whatever stage they're appearing on, the chemistry of the five Swedes is doubtlessly the biggest positive to any Sabaton show, as their interactions demonstrate a band enjoying the show just as much as the crowd is. Of course, the brilliant sense of humour of frontman Joakim Brodén is huge plus, too.
