10 Best Hip-Hop Producers Of The 2010s
2. Tyler, The Creator
No producer has evolved as much and as impressively over the last ten years than Tyler, The Creator has. His debut album "Goblin" and his most recent effort "IGOR" could not sound more different from one another, yet they both somehow still sound distinctively Tyler, The Creator.
Tyler has always maintained that a lot of his major influences come from a variety of different genres and artists. Pharrell Williams being the biggest inspiration for his music, he has also cited the likes of Kanye West, Stevie Wonder and Sade as major influences on his sound. His early work was characterised by grimy, dark and zany production coupled with shock value filled lyrics. But underneath all of that you could still hear a very impressive and unique ear for chord progression and melody that eventually became the forefront of his music by the time 2013's "Wolf" came along.
"Flower Boy" is as smooth as smooth can be. Filled with lush production and chord progressions that on paper should not work, but somehow do. Just go and listen to 911/ Mr. Lonely for a perfect example.
2019's "IGOR" is his most focused, eclectic and soulful album to date. With a more lo-fi approach to production, he draws from a variety of genres to craft an extremely vivid world for the listener to inhabit.
Tyler has evolved like no other artist has in this decade, and is one of the few people in the hip-hop world whose production ability is just as impressive, if not more impressive, than his songwriting and rapping capabilities.
