10 Best Indie/Alternative Songs Of 2017 (So Far)

6. The Underside Of Power - Algiers

The modern political and social climate has provided ample material for artists this year, perhaps more so than any point since at least the struggles of the 1980s. American rock band Algiers have embraced this despair and turned it into something rather uplifting on their acclaimed second album, The Underside Of Power.

The album's title track is a storming anthem, complete with one of the catchiest refrains of the year from the band's soulful lead singer Franklin James Fisher as he belts away the chorus: "Because I've seen the underside of power, It's a game that can't go on, It could break down any hour, I've seen their faces and I've known them all."

The entire album is well worth a listen, cementing Algiers as one of the best new bands around.
