10 Best Live Rock Albums

9. Kick Out The Jams - MC5

The MC5 were fast becoming the most famous band in Detroit, with a sound that was the most raucous rock and roll the world had ever heard. For their debut release, the band set the rock scene on fire with a live album that captured the magic that couldn't have been contained in a studio environment.

Throughout every second, this record is on fullblast as the band tear down the Grande Ballroom to absolute shreds on songs like "Ramblin Rose." The freewheeling nature of the music and the bludgeoning sonic assault from the guitars and drums were also pivotal in starting the punk and metal movements years before they were a thought in rockers' minds. The record also boasts one of the staples of the hard rock genre in "Kick Out the Jams," whose infectious riff and chaotic presentation has made it a must-listen for anyone even slightly interested in heavy rock.

As bands were experimenting with different styles in a studio environment, these garage rockers set up everything on the stage and just let it rip. Perfectly countering the prog rock movement's more overblown productions, the MC5 cut right to the point and emerged with a magical hard rock masterpiece.
