10 Best Live Rock Bands
5. Rush
When it comes to the live show, a trio is always a tricky situation because of the need to recreate their sound to fill a stadium. However, Rush's technical virtuosity behind their instruments make every live performance the band played seem like superhuman feats of brilliance.
Alex Lifeson's blend of chords and lead playing make the band sound like they have three guitarists, while Geddy Lee pulls off wild multitasking as he sings, plays bass, synthesizers, and even operates bass pedals with his feet.
Even with all of Lee's musical duties on the live stage, the star of each show was always Neil Peart, whose drums are set up like a mini city around his stool. For all the drums on stage, Peart made use of every one of them as he played with the ferocity of John Bonham while bringing a calculated precision to each performance.
In less capable hands, the complexity of the band's tracks could dissolve into musical gibberish at any moment. The fact that Rush spent a 4-decade career delivering their sonic landscapes to their audiences is something that only the true greats can pull off.
