10 Best Metal Live Performances You Can Watch On YouTube Right Now

1. Black Sabbath (L'Olympia Bruno Coquatrix, 1970)

Black Sabbath's set at Paris's L'Olympia Bruno Coquatrix in 1970 had to be at number one purely because it represents a lost era of rock n' roll. While it is still possible to see acts like Gojira, Avenged Sevenfold and Shining performing at their peak, the same cannot be said for Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler. 1970 is a mystical and unimaginable land for the vast majority of today's metalheads, who were most likely brought into the genre by parents or older relatives.

In 2017, it's hard to imagine a time when Black Sabbath were a new act with only two albums to their name. But that is exactly what this live show captures. Hot off one of the best metal records of all time, Paranoid (1970), Sabbath lay out nothing but belters in this hour-long set. You can't much better than opening with one of their biggest tracks ever recorded, Paranoid, followed by Hand of Doom, Rat Salad and Iron Man.

This video is a must-watch for any metalhead as, in many ways, it symbolises the very early days of the genre they have come to love.
