10 Best Metal Live Performances You Can Watch On YouTube Right Now
2. Gojira (Resurrection Fest, 2014)
Narrowly missing out on the top spot is French quartet Gojira, who are, quite possibly, the best pure metal band going today. And if their set at Spain's Resurrection Fest in 2014 doesn't demonstrate that, nothing will.
Featuring a setlist packed almost exclusively with crowd-popping fan favourite such as L'Enfant sauvage, Vacuity and the unbridled masterwork Backbone, this performance is gorgeously shot, expertly mixed, perfectly performed and, above all else, made complete by an audience that refuses to stand still for even a second.
Flying Whales erupts with a destructive moshpit, while the breakdown of the mechanical Toxic Garbage Island brings nothing but pure aggression and brilliant violence in its wake.
Also worth checking out on YouTube is Gojira's more recent set emanating from Paris in June 2016, which adds long-lost cult hits like The Art of Dying, while also integrating material from their brand new opus Magma (2016). However, the Resurrection Fest set gets the spot on the list over the French show purely due to a larger and more energised crowd, as well as less intrusive cinematography.
