6. System Of A Down - BYOB
Throughout their tenure, System of a Down always had their fair share of political commentary in their songs. Even if some of the lyrics seemed indecipherable at times, there was no question that System was a band to be paying attention to. When the band announced their return in 2005 with "BYOB," they went with a video that would make anyone stand up at attention.
Written around the idea of terrorist attacks and the government's hand in destroying citizen's lives, "BYOB" is a song that pulls no punches. As such, the video responds in kind with fantastic color schemes that make the viewer feel a bit on edge from the start. In a brilliant contrast, the musical transitions in the song are complimented by footage of the band in the middle of a government takeover and a rave.
The way in which the video is edited also brings to mind the sensation of never feeling quite comfortable, which is perfect for a song about questioning the morals of war. By the end of the video, the faceless violent forces have taken over with the band being replaced with android masks on their heads. A bleak ending for a song that is aiming to expose the injustices of modern-day politics.
