9. Hey Brother - Avicii

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Cp6mKbRTQY Avicii's "Hey Brother" has an All-American feel to it. Underneath the BBQ's, sparklers, and fireflies, a real story that many people can relate to today is being told. Between shots of old Vietnam war photos and video, we are introduced to what first appears to be two brothers hanging out with each other. We see them doing various activities that stereotypical American boys would probably be found doing. What makes this video so interesting and pushed me to think more about it is that at the end of the video, we learn that who we believe is an older brother is actually a father. He was called off to war and promises that he will return soon, but unfortunately we see that he doesn't come back alive. Siblings that are really close become great friends and representing the father as a brother may symbolise that the younger brother sees his father as the older brother he never had. For the young boy, losing his father was like losing three people: his parent, his brother, and his best friend. Even though the video is set in time of the Vietnam War, the issue of losing family during wartime violence is still relevant and hard hitting. As the lyrics say, no matter what's happening, even "if the sky comes falling down," there's nothing that we won't do for our loved ones.

Art is expression, with any possible form of media you can think of. Throughout my life I have experimented with many creative outlets such as music, writing, painting, drawing, sculpting, photography, and film. Recently I have grown to love the art of film. It is a great way to get my creativity working in fantastic ways. I am now working on getting a degree in Communications with a minor in Creative Writing. I will be graduating from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2014 and hope to pursue a masters in film down the road. I have currently started working as a video/audio assistant and technician at my University. I also freelance write, produce and edit stories, poetry, and video. I hope that someday I can produce my own films and work on documentaries focusing on nature and destinations. Life is too short to stop and think. Act, see, and experience the world and it's beauties. There's no better way to do that than seeing it first hand, then reminding yourself later of what awesome things you've seen, by looking through your camera or expressing it in a story.
