10 Best Music Videos Of 2016
5. Grimes - Kill V. Maim
If you made it through that last Sigur Rós video you probably need something a bit lighter to cleanse your soul. Thankfully, the video for Kill V. Maim from Canadian musician Grimes' 2015 record Art Angels will do the trick.
Kill V. Maim is the exact opposite of Óveður: it's bright and colourful, funny and doesn't take itself at all seriously. It wants nothing more than to have a bit of fun. Nevertheless the video is terrifically entertaining and incredibly memorable. It begins with Grimes and her costumed entourage driving down a garish, CGI city, cutting between shots of her and the gang dancing in an underground subway and racing above the surface. During these scenes there's a huge amount to look at, whether it's Grimes' various costumes, the woman wielding the bow or the little hand drawn animations that ripple at various points on the screen.
Later, Grimes dresses as a bird, complete with black wings and golden talons. Towards the end of the clip there's even a couple video game references, with the heart pieces from The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time blinking at the top left of the screen and the final red text from Dark Souls proclaiming: YOU DIED.
